The Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT), Mumbai, with the aim of strengthening Keralam’s animation, visual effects, gaming, comics and extended reality (AVGC-XR) ecosystem. The collaboration will support C-DIT’s plan to establish an AVGC-XR Centre of Excellence in Thiruvananthapuram.
“AVGC-XR is among the fastest-growing segments of the global creative economy. The international industry is valued at around $800 billion and continues to grow at more than 10% annually, while India’s current share remains below 5%. For Keralam, with its strong education base, creative talent, technology capability and digital public infrastructure, the sector opens a major new window of opportunity,” C-DIT said in a statement.
The statement quoted C-DIT Registrar Jayadev Anand as saying that the AVGC-XR Centre of Excellence and the hub-and-spoke model infrastructure being established in line with the Kerala government’s AVGC-XR policy, will bring together technology, skill development, industry partnerships, innovation and intellectual property creation.
The MoU was exchanged at FICCI FRAMES 2026, the national media and entertainment convention held in Mumbai on September 29 and 30, in the presence of Ashish Shelar, Minister for Information Technology, Maharashtra. The C-DIT’s collaboration with IICT is expected to enable structured cooperation in skill development, industry engagement, technology upgradation, training and capacity building, shared facilities, expert services and jury support for the fast-growing creative technology sector.
IICT CEO Vishwas Deoskar said such partnerships will provide students and emerging creators with opportunities and stronger exposure to industry-led learning and global standards.
