Virudhunagar district administration is gearing up to prevent dengue cases ahead of the Northeast monsoon.

Though the district has reported only five dengue cases in September and eight cases in October, Virudhunagar Collector Sharanya Ari has advised the officials to take all preventive measures against the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.

At a review meeting held here on Monday, Ms. Sharanya instructed the officials to identify the breeding grounds for mosquitoes and remove them immediately. She also advised the local bodies to prevent stagnation of rainwater in houses and public places. Water tanks should be kept closed and the environment should be kept clean.

The officials have been instructed to take up fogging activities in fever-infested areas and also to conduct medical camps.

Continuous monitoring should be taken up in all office buildings, schools and colleges, industrial units and public places so that mosquitoes do not breed in those areas.

The officials should inspect those offices every Thursday to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.

District Rural Development Agency Project Director Vanathi, Joint Director (Medical Services) Dr. Kaliraj, District Health Officers, Municipal Health Officers and Block Medical Officers were among those who took part in the meeting.
