Relatives of a deceased woman engaged in a protest for the second day, refusing to receive the body of the woman who died during childbirth at the Sivaganga Government Hospital.
K. Vanitha, 27, from Keelachalur near Sivaganga, already had two female children. For her third delivery, she was admitted to the Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital on September 30.
On October 2, she gave birth to a female baby. However, due to severe bleeding, Vanitha passed away on Sunday despite treatment. The Sivaganga Town police registered a case.
Meanwhile, alleging that she died due to medical negligence, relatives refused to receive the body and staged a roadblock protest near the Ambedkar statue for the second day. When the police held talks with them, an argument broke out between the two parties.
Subsequently, they were taken to the hospital for talks. MLA Kuzhanthai Rani Nachiyar, along with hospital authorities and the police, conducted negotiations.
At that time, they insisted that compensation of ₹50 lakh each should be provided to the three female children, a government job should be given to the husband of the deceased woman, and a house should be built under a government scheme.
Following the MLA’s assurance that appropriate action would be taken regarding the government job and building a house, they agreed to receive the body.
