Sivakasi District Health Officer held on bribery charge

District Health Officer, Sivakasi, Dr. Jegaveera Pandian alias Gunasekaran, 59, was arrested on charges of demanding and accepting a ₹5,000 bribe for releasing vehicle rent bills at his office in Anaiyur, Sivakasi, on Monday.

Based on a complaint received from a rented vehicle owner that the bribe was demanded for releasing the bills for a rented vehicle used for health screening of students under the National Health Mission, sleuths of the Virudhunagar district unit of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption laid a trap and reportedly caught him red-handed.

Further enquiry is under way.

The statement said that the public could inform about corrupt practices in government offices or demand for bribes, directly or indirectly, or through middlemen, at the office of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Collectorate Campus (rear side), Virudhunagar.
