The members of the Inner Wheel Club of Madurai City celebrated the golden jubilee here on Monday.
Marking the celebrations, the speakers hailed the yeomen services of the past presidents, chair persons and other office-bearers since its inception in 1976 by Rukmini Shanmugam.
Today, the club has four funds – namely annadhanam for poor feeding, vocational fund for providing short term computer courses for college girls, educational fund for aid in the field and medical fund for providing dialysis support. To commemorate the golden jubilee, the club members supported the cause of abandoned elders and seniors in the Angel Devaki Prabhakaran Home functioning at Mukkampatti village near here with a contribution of ₹11 lakh.
The occasion also marked honouring the past leaders, including convenors Lakshmi Periannan, Kamala Manimozhian and Ruhirani Ramasubramanian for their dynamic role by the Inner Wheel Clubs in India president Vinutha Harish and Rotary International vice president AKS M M Muruganandam in the presence of district chairman Geetha.
The chief guests commended the club members for their focus on women, children and the differently abled persons in the last five decades.
Many beneficiaries hailed the club members for their contributions in the early years in building the Balamandiram and a few other educational institutions in the city, for upgrading infrastructural facilities in the government schools, for ensuring water and sanitation in the campuses for girl students.
Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in India vice president Sonal Bansal felicitated. Club president Alarmelu Kumarappan welcomed the gathering and secretary Nandhini Suryamurthy proposed a vote of thanks.
