The city police arrested eight members of a nine-member gang, who were allegedly involved in preparing forged documents, fabricating death certificates, impersonating genuine property owners and attempting to acquire vacant property. The gang attempted to cheat prospective purchasers by selling such properties for monetary gain.
The arrested were identified as N. Ramakrishna Siva Prasad, A. Kumar, both ex-offenders, R. Lakshmana Rao, M. Durga Mahesh, N. Keerthika, P. Mani Kumar, M. Suresh Kumar Raju, and G. Sai Kiran.
Addressing a press conference at the P.M. Palem Police Station, on Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ch. Manikanta said that on July 29, a 70-year-old person, P. Chandrababu, approached P.M. Palem police and stated that he had purchased a 200-square-yard house site at Shivashakti Nagar in Madhurwada, in the name of his wife P. Umadevi in 2004, and that the said property had been in their possession ever since.
He further stated that they had two sons and that his wife had died of cancer in 2023. In May 2026, he noticed that the property, which should have continued to be in the name of his deceased wife, had been transferred in the name of A. Kumar through a registered GPA dated May 12, 2026. He immediately approached the concerned Sub-Registrar Office and conducted an enquiry.
The DCP said that during the enquiry, the complainant learnt that fake death certificates had been prepared showing that he had died in 2009 and that his wife had died in 2013. Fake Aadhaar cards, had been prepared. Further, a fake Family Member Certificate had also been created showing N. Keerthika as his daughter.
Based on these fabricated documents, the property was transferred through a GPA in favour of A. Kumar. When the complainant contacted Alamanda Kumar over the phone and enquired about the matter, he learnt that N. Keerthika and Alamanda Kumar had cancelled the said GPA.
Following the complaint, P.M. Palem Police Station Inspector, G. Bala Krishna registered a case. A special team was constituted and acting on a tipp-off, the accused was arrested on October 3.
During the investigation, the police found that Ramakrishna Siva Prasad, A. Kumar, along with the other accused, formed a gang and were identifying vacant plots and properties in and around the city, particularly properties whose owners were residing elsewhere or were elderly and vulnerable.
The gang allegedly conspired to unlawfully acquire and sell the property for monetary gain. As part of the conspiracy, A. Kumar, who had been acquainted with Durga Mahesh of Eluru, approached him. Durga Mahesh allegedly agreed to have his wife N. Keerthika, impersonate the complainant’s daughter.
As part of the conspiracy, the accused arranged fake death certificates and colour photocopies of the property documents. On the basis of these documents, a registered GPA in favour of A. Kumar was executed through N. Keerthika. After the complainant came to know about the transaction and started making enquiries, the said GPA was subsequently cancelled.
However, as the fabricated property documents were available, the gang negotiated the sale of the property for ₹80 lakh with another woman from Rama Talkies area. They allegedly executed a sale agreement with her and received an advance of ₹15 lakh.
On October 3, the woman came to the Sub-Registrar Office, Madhurawada, for registration of the property. Acting on the information received, the PM palem Police promptly proceeded to the Madhurawada Sub-Registrar Office and apprehended the accused.
