Two students from Erode win medals at WorldSkills competition

Two students from Erode district have won medals at the 48th WorldSkills Competition held in Shanghai, China, from September 22 to 27.

Surendran, a student of Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam, won an award in Plastering and Drywall Systems, while Rahul, a student of Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai, received an award in Artificial Intelligence.

The two students met Collector S. Kandasamy at the Collectorate recently and showed him their awards. The Collector congratulated them and presented them with books.

Twelve contestants from the State participated in various skill categories as part of the Indian contingent at the competition. Five of them won one silver medal and four Medals for Excellence.

The silver medal was the first won by Tamil Nadu at the WorldSkills Competition. The Indian contingent won six silver medals and 20 Medals for Excellence at the Shanghai competition, the highest medal tally recorded by India at the event so far. India consequently secured 10th position in the global rankings, its highest-ever ranking in the history of the WorldSkills Competition.
