
A total of 16 kg of ganja was seized in two separate cases in Ranipet on Tuesday.

Four drug peddlers were arrested, and 16 kg of ganja was seized in two separate surprise checks by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Nemili police in Ranipet on Tuesday.
The police said that in the first incident, K. Vikram, 26, B. Deepak Kumar, 22, I. Yabesh, 24, and S. Anjanappa, 27, were arrested by Nemili police near Arakkonam town.
Initial inquiry revealed that Nemili police were conducting a surprise check on Panapakkam Main Road, when they saw a gang attempting to flee after they noticed police on the stretch. However, they were nabbed.
The police team also seized 6 kg of ganja from them. The drug peddlers were allegedly selling small quantities of ganja at public places in surrounding villages near Nemili and Arakkonam towns. A case was registered. and the arrested persons were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore.
In a separate incident, surprise searches by a team of RFP and GRP personnel on express trains at Arakkonam railway station was conducted on Tuesday, when the team found 10 kg of ganja.
The police said that a gang of three persons had alighted from the train when they noticed the team. They abandoned the consignment. A case was registered by RPF Arakkonam. The police were analysing CCTV camera footage to nab the gang that was involved in the smuggling. A probe is under way.
