A petition submitted by a resident of Housing Unit Phase II in Kurichi to remove a pungai tree that allegedly posed risk to electricity lines was rejected by the Madukkarai Tahsildar, who granted permission only to prune the branches.
The issue was flagged by Syed of Green Care Movement.
The order was issued by Tahsildar M. Senthilkumar on September 24, based on a petition submitted by S. Subramaniam, a resident of B-74, Housing Unit Phase II, and a report from the Kurichi Village Administrative Officer.
The VAO had reported that the branches of the tree extended over electricity lines and could pose a danger. The tree was also considered at risk of falling during heavy rain and strong winds.
While the petitioner had sought permission to remove the tree, the Tahsildar permitted only the branches to be cut and removed, ensuring that the work did not cause inconvenience to nearby residents, vehicles or the public. The work is to be carried out at the petitioner’s expense.
