Amridhesh U., a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) swimmer from Palakkad, won seven medals at the 74th All India Police Aquatic Cluster 2026-27 held at NSG Manesar, Haryana, from October 1 to 6.
Mr. Amridhesh won five gold, a silver and a bronze. He also set a new record in the 50-metre freestyle with a time of 23.80 seconds, bettering a nine-year-old mark.
His performance helped CISF win the men’s swimming championship. The CISF aquatic team won 30 medals (12 gold, 11 silver and seven bronze) in the swimming events.
The championship, conducted under the All India Police Sports Control Board, featured swimming, water polo, diving and cross-country events. Teams from State police forces and Central police organisations took part.
The CISF team competed under coach Malpeddi Gopi R. and assistant coach Shaji Kuriakose.
Journey in the pool
Mr. Amridhesh began swimming at the age of 10 and took part in his first competition in 2010. He later competed in the school nationals, junior nationals, senior nationals, all India inter-university games and the 2022 National Games in Gujarat.
He joined the CISF in 2022 and specialises in the 50 m, 100 m and 200 m freestyle events.
At the All India Police Games, Mr. Amridhesh won four gold medals in 2024-25 and two gold and two silver medals in 2025-26.
He also won seven medals at the World Police and Fire Games in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2025, including four gold, two silver and one bronze.
“I am proud and grateful to be a part of CISF. I am thankful to my coaches for pushing me, believing in me and bringing out the best in me. I am equally grateful to my family for standing by me,” Mr. Amridhesh said.
National Security Guard director General Brighu Srinivasan, IPS, presented the trophy to Mr. Amridhesh at the closing ceremony.
