Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds that have been lashing parts of Keralam for the past few days are likely to continue for a few more days, triggered by a cyclonic circulation and supported by a trough running over the State.
According to a weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday (October 8, 2026), an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over the south Keralam coast and a trough runs from the cyclonic circulation over the south Keralam coast to south interior Karnataka.
Under the influence of the weather systems, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty wind with speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur over parts of Keralam and Lakshadweep until October 10. A yellow alert has been issued for Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Friday (October 9, 2026), warning of isolated heavy rain.
