Telangana BJP on Thursday criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet colleagues for travelling to Delhi to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls while “ignoring the problems faced by farmers due to power cuts and water shortages”.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s State office, party chief spokesperson N.V. Subash mocked the Chief Minister for speaking about democracy and voting rights and alleged that Mr. Revanth Reddy had undermined the sanctity of the electoral process through his involvement in the 2015 “Vote for Note” case.
Mr. Subash also questioned the Congress government’s failure to act on several issues it had raised against the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government and demanded to know why action had not been taken over the alleged encroachment of land at former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s farmhouse in Erravelli, and in cases related to the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, the alleged phone-tapping scandal, Dharani land records portal, sheep distribution scheme, and power purchase deals.
The BJP leader alleged that both the Congress government and the previous BRS regime had attempted to suppress dissent and silence Opposition voices with the BJP leaders frequently prevented from staging protests on issues of public importance through police restrictions. He urged the government to focus on issues affecting farmers, instead of engaging in “politically motivated” protests.
