The TDP will give 34% of the seats to the Backward Classes (BCs) in the upcoming local body elections, says Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Addressing the gathering during the ‘Mee Bhoomi – Mee Hakku’ programme, at Narsingolu village of Kondapi constituency in Praksasam district on Friday, Mr. Naidu termed the BCs as the backbone of the TDP.
Reacting to the Supreme Court’s verdict on the reservation for the BCs, the Chief Minister said the TDP would continue to support them and ensure their representation through the party.
“The party has consistently worked for their social, economic and political advancement, and it stands by the BCs by ensuring them 34% representation,” he said.
Mr. Naidu alleged that it was the YSRCP that had reduced the reservation for the BCs to 24% from the earlier 34%, which harmed their interests. “The YSRCP leaders have approached courts to obstruct the local body elections citing the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise,” he alleged.
