The Kempegowda International Airport police on Friday detained a man for allegedly contacting passengers at the airport and demanding money from them.

The incident took place in Terminal 1 of the airport. Acting on allegations that the man was attempting to collect money from passengers under the pretext of seeking emergency help, security personnel detained him for questioning.

While probing the accused’s mobile phone, the police reportedly found details of several financial transactions. They also obtained information about multiple payment scanners allegedly used to receive money from passengers.

The accused, identified as Ameen, had booked a flight ticket from Bengaluru to Mumbai. He arrived at the airport well before the scheduled departure time and was allegedly collecting money near the ticketing area. The Airport police took him into custody and questioned him.

In connection with the case, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel handed over the accused to the Kempegowda International Airport police who are currently investigating the purpose of the financial transactions, the reasons for collecting money from passengers and whether others were involved in the offence.
