Police personnel investigating vehicle theft cases stumbled upon a counterfeit currency racket and arrested a man who was allegedly caught red-handed while preparing to deliver fake currency notes to his customers on Hosa Road service road in C.K. Nagar, Begur, on October 10.

Police officer Janardhan R. and police constable Govindaraju acted on a tip-off and caught the suspect, identified as Anil, while he was allegedly attempting to circulate the counterfeit notes.

The police seized fake ₹500 currency notes and a scooter which was allegedly being used to transport the counterfeit currency.

According to the complaint, the accused had brought the fake notes to the C.K. Nagar area between 7 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. on October 10, allegedly to distribute them to customers and supply them to others.

The Parappana Agrahara police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to establish the source of the counterfeit notes and identify others involved in the racket.

The seizure comes close on the heels of the Chamarajpet police busting an alleged inter-State counterfeit currency racket in Bengaluru. In that case, reported on October 1, the police arrested seven persons and seized 4,337 counterfeit ₹500 notes.

Investigators are probing whether the latest seizure has any links to a wider counterfeit currency network.
