The Nadhi-SheforClimate collective hosted a roundtable session at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras Research Park on Saturday to address Chennai’s urban challenges related to waste, heat and green cover.

Experts, resident welfare group leaders, civic groups, and startups spoke on ideas to work out a roadmap for urban solid waste management at the discussion headed by Shalini Bharat, the founder of Nadhi.

Key discussions focused on reducing landfill dependency from 77% by scaling decentralised waste recovery and processing from 20% to over 65% by 2030, and doubling urban green cover through Miyawaki forests and community greening.

The session emphasised cross-sector collaboration to build sustainable solutions that enhance Chennai’s climate resilience and livability.
