The Monsoon Session of the Rajasthan Assembly began on Monday (September 1, 2025) with uproarious scenes, as the Opposition Congress MLAs raised slogans alleging “theft of votes” by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form governments. The treasury members responded by shouting slogans against the Congress leaders.

As soon as the House assembled, the Congress members started shouting slogans of “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod” (vote thief, step down) and displayed placards. Even after the Speaker, Vasudev Devnani, asked them to maintain decorum, the Opposition MLAs remained defiant and tried to disrupt the proceedings.

Mr. Devnani reminded the Leader of Opposition, Tika Ram Jully, that the dignity of the Assembly must be maintained by refraining from using inappropriate words. “Please maintain the dignity of the House… This is not a marketplace or street corner,” Mr. Devnani said.

The BJP members raised counter-slogans accusing the Congress leaders of using abusive language. The House took up selective business amid the ruckus, with the tabling of a Bill and the Select Committee report on the regulation of coaching centres.

The Speaker informed the House that Baran district’s Anta Assembly seat had fallen vacant following the disqualification of BJP MLA Kanwar Lal Meena after he was convicted and sentenced in a criminal case.

The Speaker also made obituary references to 10 leaders, including former Governor Satya Pal Malik and former MP Girija Vyas. After paying tributes to the departed leaders, the Assembly was adjourned till Wednesday (September 3, 2025), in view of the official holiday on Ramdev Jayanti falling on Tuesday (September 2, 2025).

The Congress MLAs later staged a demonstration on the Assembly premises with the placards carrying slogans on the issue of alleged attempts to disenfranchise voters in different States. Mr. Jully also asked why no tributes was paid in the House to the children killed in the school building collapse in Jhalawar district recently.
