The Madukkarai police on Sunday (September 21, 2025) arrested a man from Madurai on the charge of murdering a 40-year-old man and dumping his body in a sewage canal, after stuffing it in a gunny bag, on Coimbatore – Pollachi Road.
Mahalingam, 41, of Madurai was arrested by the police for murdering Balusamy, a resident of Seerapalayam at Madukkarai.
The police said that a gunny bag stuffed with a male body was found in a sewage canal near the SIDCO overbridge. The deceased was later identified as Balusamy, who was missing for the past few days.
The investigators found that Mahalingam had borrowed ₹20,000 from Balusamy and failed to return it. As Balusamy continued to demand the money, Mahalingam planned to murder him. He asked Balusamy to come near the overbridge to collect the money a few days ago and murdered him by assaulting with a stone, said the police.
A woman was also present with Mahalingam and the police are on the lookout for her.
