A large number of police personnel from Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad carried out a thorough check at Mullaperiyar dam on Monday.
Police and Revenue Department officials said the Thrissur District Collectorate in Kerala received an email stating that bombs had been planted at the reservoir and they would explode soon.
Immediately, the officials at Thrissur Collectorate alerted Idukki district officials for necessary action. As a sequel, the BDDS and the police reached the reservoir. A thorough check was carried out at the dam site.
Meanwhile, PWD officials and the police in Theni district said it would not be an easy task for any unauthorised person to enter the highly secure area, which was under round-the-clock surveillance and manned by police personnel from both Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Further investigation is on.
