At a time when the world is talking about Artificial Intelligence (AI) as the new benchmark for the future, the technology is now making the lives of the visually impaired persons easy.

AI-powered eyeglasses, laptops and mobile handsets are becoming a helping hand for the visually challenged persons to carry out their tasks easily.

On Saturday (October 18, 2025), The Hindu spoke to some visually impaired individuals who received such devices from Vision-Aid India, an NGO, and the Rotary Club of Waltair, at Dr. L. Bullayya College. Some of the beneficiaries are government employees, while others are students who are preparing for competitive examinations.

In total, 31 AI-powered devices were distributed to talented visually impaired individuals.

“I have 100% vision problem. I am now using an AI-powered eyewear. It helps me prepare for competitive examinations and recognise the people I interact with. Thanks to the technology which have made the lives of many people like me easy,” said Koda Pushpa Bhavani, who completed her M.A. in sociology from Gayatri Vidya Parishad College in MVP Colony.

Narrating his story, Dunna Hara Kranth, another beneficiary, said that he lost his vision in 2020. “After losing vision, I saw no other option but to adjust to the challenges that visually impaired people face. Now, these AI-based laptops, eyewear, and mobile phones will be helpful to me. The government should provide such devices to the needy,” he said.
