The family of a pregnant woman who was found charred in her husband’s house at Varandarappilly on Wednesday, has alleged against the husband. The deceased, Archana, had been enduring severe mental and physical abuse in her marital home, according to her family. They allege that her husband, Sharon, murdered her.

The body of Archana, in her early twenties, was found in a drainage canal behind her husband’s house at Mattumala, around 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The Varandarappilly police have taken Sharon into custody on charges of abetment of suicide.

The couple had entered into a love marriage just seven months ago. Since then, Archana had not been allowed to contact her family, said her father, Haridas. According to the family, Sharon was deeply suspicious of Archana and had even restricted her from using her phone.

Archana’s brother Anu recounted that Sharon had once beaten her in front of the Alagappa Nagar Polytechnic. When confronted about the incident, Sharon allegedly responded that he alleged kill her and that no one should dare question him. The family now demands a thorough investigation into Archana’s death and insists that the role of Sharon and his family be closely examined.

Mr. Haridas said he had always told his daughter to return home if she faced any hardship, but Sharon’s cruelty had left her terrified.

The couple had met when Sharon’s family lived in a rented house near Archana’s home.

Sharon had earlier been charged in a cannabis case, said Mr. Haridas, adding that he had warned his daughter about the relationship.
