
A animal keeper offers fruits to hippopotamus Jr Dalapathi on its eighth birthday celebrations at its enclosure at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

Authorities from the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) celebrated the eighth birthday of Jr. Dalapathi, the hippopotamus, at its enclosure in on Thursday.
City-based CPE College adopted Jr. Dalapathi for a day, and other animals such as the Red-necked wallaby, Black swans and Ring-tailed lemur for a a year showcasing their commitment to wildlife conservation. Wearing facemask of hippopotamus, the students from the college participated in the celebrations.
The celebration had a ‘specially designed cake’ which was cut and a decorated vegetables and fruits for Jr. Dalapathi. Zoo officials also organised an awareness session highlighting the role of hippos in the ecosystem. Jr. Dalapathi was born in captivity at the zoo park on this date eight years ago.
IGZP, curator G. Mangamma, applauded the initiative and emphasised the role of fostering awareness among students.
