National Classical Dance festival begins at Music varsity

A two-day Performing Arts National Conference and Classical Dance Festival began at the Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hanagal Music and Performing Arts University here on Thursday.

Renowned danseuse Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy inaugurated the event in the presence of Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Mutt, Vice-Chancellor Nagesh V. Bettakote, registrar M.G. Manjunath, Prof. K. Rammurthy Rao, Dr. Tulasi Ramachandra, and other dignitaries.

The festival has been jointly organised by Bharata Nritya Sangeetha Academy, Bengaluru, Noopura Kalavidaru Samskruthika Trust, Mysuru, and the host university.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy highlighted the importance of preserving classical art traditions. Prof. Rammurthy Rao traced the evolution of performing arts in Karnataka, while Dr. Tulasi Ramachandra discussed the role of Kannada—past, present and future—in classical dance.
