AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami is set to resume his Makkalai Kaappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom State-wide tour in Gobichettipalayam on November 30.
Party sources said he was expected to demonstrate his strength in Gobichettipalayam, considered the stronghold of former MLA K.A. Sengottaiyan, who was expelled from the party and subsequently joined the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
The sixth phase of Mr. Palaniswami’s tour, delayed by 50 days after the Karur tragedy, is seen as an attempt by the party leadership to assert that the constituency will remain an AIADMK bastion even after Mr. Sengottaiyan’s exit. The newly appointed office-bearers in the constituency are mobilising their resources to ensure that the leadership receives overwhelming support ahead of the 2026 Assembly election. They are working to reinforce the message that the party stands above individuals.
Though Mr. Palaniswami said in Madurai that he could not respond to remarks made by Mr. Sengottaiyan as he was no longer in the party, cadre felt that the leadership might issue a scathing response to the former MLA, who had represented the constituency eight times.
