A 35-year-old farmer was found dead in Tavashi near Athani of Belagavi district on Friday.
Another farmer noticed the body of Kantesh Pandu Kumbar in his field and informed his relatives.
Kantesh Kumbar is survived by his wife and three daughters.
The police said that he was upset over his inability to repay loans of around ₹15 lakh taken from banks, cooperative societies and private individuals.
A case is being registered.
