The court should intervene and order a probe into the busting of a fake drug manufacturing unit in Puducherry, Member of Parliament and president of Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee V. Vaithilingam said here on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference here, the PPCC chief said the territorial police recently raided a place at Mettupalyam and arrested a few persons for manufacturing fake drugs. “The manufacturing unit was functioning for around five years. Workers have been arrested, but the person running the Puducherry unit has been trying to scuttle the inquiry. The court should intervene and order a probe under its supervision as manufacturing of such drugs poses threat to humanity. A court-monitored probe alone could bring the real culprits before law,” he said.

The police conducted the inquiry only after the intervention of the Lieutenant Governor, the Congress MP further said. “I congratulate the Lt. Governor for taking the initiative. He should now ensure that all culprits are punished,” he added.
