The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai, on Monday (December 1, 2025), forecast heavy to very heavy rain in Tiruvallur and Chennai districts till Tuesday (December 2) morning due to the deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts.Â
Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Ranipet, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts. From about 11 a.m. on Monday, many places in Chennai city witnessed heavy rains that led to roads flooding and traffic slowing down. Several schools allowed children to leave early due to incessant showers.Â
According to the RMC as of 11.30 a.m., the deep depression, which is a remnant of the cyclonic storm Ditwah, moved slowly northwards with the speed of 3 kmph during the past six hours and lay centred about 50 km east of Chennai, 140 km northeast of Puducherry, 160 km north-northeast of Cuddalore, 170 km south-southeast of Nellore.
Heavy rain resulted in waterlogging on many roads and in low-lying areas of Chennai due to impact of Cyclone Ditwah. A scene of workers pumping out rainwater from the railway tracks at Egmore Railway station in the city on December 1, 2025
