An engineering student was found dead in his hostel room at city-based KIIT University, where two students from Nepal had ended their lives earlier this year for different reasons.
According to Commissionerate of Police for Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the deceased has been identified as Rahul Yadav (18) from Raipur of Chhattisgarh. He was in the first year of Computer Science programme. He was found dead in his hostel room at block KP 7 AB on Campus 10 on Sunday (November 30, 2025).
“Upon receiving information, the Infocity Police immediately rushed to the spot. The room, which was locked from inside, was opened in the presence of police officials under videography. The body was then shifted to KIMS Hospital where the attending doctor declared Rahul Yadav dead,” said the police in a statement.
Based on information received from KIMS Hospital, a case of unnatural death has been registered. “The scientific officer visited the spot and seized exhibits including the mobile phone and laptop of the deceased under a proper seizure list. Subsequently, the room was sealed awaiting the arrival of the deceased’s parents,” it said.
The Commissioner of Police said senior officers visited the spot room, assessed the evidence and interacted with hostel inmates to ascertain the background and circumstances of the unnatural death. The student’s family members were informed.
