The glass skywalk at the Kailasagiri hill was officially opened to the public on Monday (December 1). Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament M. Sribharat inaugurated it in the presence of Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) Chairperson M.V. Pranav Gopal and local MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna.
The glass skywalk, built by the VMRDA at a cost of ₹7 crore, spans nearly 55 metres and is designed as a cantilevered structure. Made of imported 40MM thick toughned German glass, the walkway will provide a safe and exhilarating experience to visitors, said Mr. Pranav Gopal to media persons on the occasion.
He said that the work was entrusted to M/S Sai Moksha Shipping & Logistics, and RJ Adventures. Its overhanging length is 35 meters and on the ground length is 20 meters, making a total 55 metres of walking length. Its width is three meters. It is fixed with stainless steel hand railing of 1.5 meters height for both sides.
Mr. Sribharat said it is the government’s dedication to complete public interest projects, especially those related to tourism, at the earliest and include them in the priority list. He said many such projects are coming up in the city to attract tourists.

Although the structure can hold 100 people at a time, the number of visitors allowed into the bridge is limited to 40 per batch to ensure comfort and safety. The walk time is five to seven minutes. It is designed to withstand 250kmph wind speed. It has VRCC concrete support walls.
The transparent floor will be a major attraction for adventure enthusiasts, while families can enjoy the peaceful natural scenery around the hilltop, Mr. Gopal added.
