Police successfully identified a young girl killed in the Sivaganga bus accident through the use of social media.
As the police could not identity the young girl, who died in the accident near Nachiyarpuram which claimed 11 lives, they decided to upload her photo on social media platforms.
The parents of the victim on seeing the picture through the college administration contacted the police. Subsequently, police identified the girl as R. Diana, 17, a student of government engineering college in Karaikudi. She hails from Thuvarankurichi in Tiruchi.
She had gone home for holidays and was travelling back to the college hostel after the weekend, when she met with the fatal accident.
It is learnt through her parents that the girl initially waited for a bus at Kottampatti in Madurai district. But, as no bus arrived, she asked her parents if she could take a bus on Monday morning.
However, upon her parents’ insistence that taking bus would make her late for college on Monday, she decided to take the bus that day itself.
