A 50-year-old resident from Brahmavar in Udupi district lost ₹1.38 lakh to a cyber fraudster.
In a complaint, the victim said he received a call from the fraudster around noon of November 20. Posing as a bank official, the accused took his PAN and Aadhaar details by stating that it was required for renewal of the ATM card. The fraudster then took the OTP, which the victim received. Soon after, a total of ₹1.38 lakh was withdrawn from the victim’s Canara Bank account in Brahmavar.
The Brahmavar police have registered the victim’s complaint of cheating under Sections 66 (C) and 66 (D) of the Information Technology Act.
Booked
The Brahmavar police booked lorry driver Vijay Kumar, the lorry owner Varadhendra, and others after seizing sand worth ₹7,000 illegally extracted from the Sita in Neelavara village on November 29, the police said.
In a statement, the police said, following a raid, they found sand that was kept in two fiber boats being filled in the lorry driven by Vijay Kumar. Apart from the sand, the police seized the two boats and also the lorry. Vijay Kumar, Varadhendra, and others were booked for theft of natural resources and its illegal transport. They were booked for offences under Sections 303(2) and 112 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Sections 4(1), 4 (1A), 21(1)(2) of Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act 1957 and Sections 3(1), 42(1) and 44 of Karnataka Minor Mineral Concession Rules 1994.
