Pandit Ravikiran Manipal captivated the audience by singing compositions, including a ghazal and a bhajan, set to Raag Shivaranjini, in Mangaluru on Sunday.
The final concert by Pt. Ravikiran Manipal, named ‘Shades of Shivaranjini’, was among the three concerts held at part of ‘Baithak’ music programme organised by Swaraanand Pratishthan at the BEM School auditorium.
Pt. Manipal started his concert with Aaye Dina Sakhiri Aba Bichudanake set to slow-paced Vilambit Ektaal. This was followed by Dekho Dekho Shyam Ne Bansi Bajaayi set to the fast-paced Drut Teentaal. He then presented a tarana set to Drut Ektaal.
He sung Apne Khwaabon Ko Aasuon Ki Dariya Mein Dubaaya Hoon in Mishr Shivaranjini Raag. He ended the concert with a bhajan of Purandara Dasa on Lord Krishna.
The first concert of the day was of Vibha Hegde of Yellapur. She first sung Sanjha Bhayi Ajahuna Charawaal Charavayya in Raag Shree, set to vilambit Ek Taal. Then she sung Kaarana Dere set to Drut Teen Taal. She also sung a thumri and ended her concert with a bhajan.
She was supported by Akshay Bhat Amsalli on the tabla, Vishwajit Kini on the harmonium, and Neeharika Deraje on the tanpura.
In the second concert, flautist Kiran Hegde took the audience to meditative spell in his one-hour long presentation of compositions in Raag Yaman. He was supported by Akshay Bhat Amsalli on the tabla, and Keerthan Naiga and Lahari on the tanpura.
