Around 300 newly recruited employees were given appointment orders jointly by Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy at a function held held at Kamban Kalaiyarangam here on Monday.
The Union Territory government had conducted a written examination to fill posts for 234 Assistants, 29 Village Administrative Officers, 37 Village Assistants and 8 Multi Tasking Staff (Legal Metrology) a few months ago.
Mr. Rangasamy, in his address, requested the newly recruited employees to work with compassion and dedication. The government was committed to fulfilling its electoral promise of filling up all vacancies in departments, he said.
âMore vacancies have to be filled in the coming days. Large number of vacancies in departments will hamper welfare services and development initiatives of the government,â the Chief Minister said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kailashnathan said that since July 2023, around 3,500 posts were filled in various government departments in a transparent manner. Of the total vacancies filled, 2,500 candidates were recruited through exams, and 1,000 by means of departmental promotion. Around 300 more will be recruited after conducting a written examination next year, and notification has already been issued to fill 500 more posts, the Lt. Governor said.
âSome of the recruitment was taking place after 15 to 20 years. In the past, funds crunch was a major problem in recruitment of government staff but the present government addressed the issue after taking it up with Union Government,â he said.
The filling up of vacancies in departments, he said, was important in terms of improving government efficiency and providing job opportunities to youth.Â
