A government bus and an omni-van collided on the East Coast Road near Kalpakkam on Monday morning, leaving two women dead and more than 10 persons seriously injured.
The police said the omni-van, carrying a group of 20 women, was proceeding from Keelarkollai near Koovathur to a private company near Kelambakkam when a government bus, heading towards Puducherry, collided with it at Kunnathur.
The front portion of the omni-van was completely damaged. Ammulu, 24, and Uma, 40, died on the spot. More than 10 persons suffered serious injuries and were taken to a nearby private hospital.
The Chathurangapattinam police have registered a case and are investigating.
