The Delhi police on Monday registered an FIR in connection with a fire incident at Tigri Extension in Sangam Vihar on Saturday evening in which four persons died. The officers are hunting for the man who escaped the fire.

The fire originated from a footwear shop on the ground floor and spread to a four-storey building

Police said that three persons had entered the footwear shop before the fire broke out. Two of them were trapped inside, while the third person escaped. The escapee has still not been found and the police are on the lookout for him.

The deceased included the 38-year-old owner of the building, Satender, and his 40-year-old sister, Anita. The other two victims are believed to be the men who had entered the building before the fire.

“Three persons — Ramdin, Mahender and Manglo –— all residents of Defence Colony in Najafgarh, had come to buy shoes and were present inside the shop at the time of the incident. While one escaped, the other two got trapped in the fire. The escapee has not contacted the police or his family members. Efforts are on to trace him,” a police officer said.

The police are unsure about which two of the three men were trapped as the bodies have not been identified. The FIR has been registered under Sections 287 (negligent conduct regarding fire or combustible matter), 125(a) (causing hurt while endangering the life or personal safety of others), and 106 (causing death by a rash or negligent act) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
