Two persons with disabilities nominated to Corpn. council

Two persons with disabilities have been nominated to the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) Council. B. Balaji, 45, with a 55% disability affecting the right lower limb, and P. Jhancy Uma, 49, with a 90% locomotor disability, were formally presented with their ‘certificates of appointment’. The certificates were given by Corporation Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran on Monday. “The nominations are intended to strengthen representation for persons with disabilities within the civic body and ensure their concerns are reflected in municipal decision-making,” according to a GCC official. They are not affiliated to any political party and were nominated by a special committee formed by the Chennai Corporation based on their services to the community, the official added.
