At least 15 commuters including women escaped with minor injuries after a bus belonging to Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) rammed into a house at Chitteri village near Arani town in Tiruvannamalai on Tuesday (December 2, 2025).
Police said that the government bus was proceeding towards Villupuram from Vellore on Arani – Chetpet Main Road when the bus driver S. Vijayakumar (35) lost control of the vehicle after a two-wheeler rider suddenly took a left turn on the stretch.
The bus driver rammed the vehicle into a house near the bus stop in the village. The incident happened around 10 a.m. In the impact, the bedroom of the house collapsed while bus crew and commuters were mildly injured in the accident.
Police said the house was empty when the incident occurred. Two women were sitting on the terrace of the house but they were unhurt. The two-wheeler rider, S. Murugan (31), who took the left turn on the stretch, was badly injured.
Immediately, passersby and other motorists rescued injured persons and admitted them to Government Taluk Hospital in Arani town for treatment. A case was registered by Arani Taluk police. A probe is underway.
Later, M.S. Dharani Vendhan, Arani MP from the DMK, inspected the accident spot. He also gave a cheque of ₹1 lakh to family members of the house owner, S. Kuppan, who died a few years ago.
