Marthandam All Women Police have arrested a 36-year-old man from Kaliyakkavilai for allegedly sexually assaulting a 21-year-girl from Thuckalay region.
According to police, the victim, a 21-year post-graduate student from Thuckalay, who is pursuing her studies in Coimbatore, regularly travelled by a private omnibus. During these trips, she became acquainted with V. Anish, 36 from Kaliyakkavilai, who was working as the driver of the bus she usually boarded.
It is alleged that about a month ago, during one such journey, Anish gave her biscuits spiked with sedatives, sexually assaulted her and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone. It was also reported that he later blackmailed her and sexually assaulted her on two more occasions.
A few days ago, after learning about the assault, the victim’s mother lodged a complaint at All Women Police station in Marthandam, following which a case was registered. Based on the complaint Anish was arrested on Sunday and remanded in judicial custody at Kanniyakumari district jail in Nagercoil.
Further investigations are underway.
