Principal Judge for CBI Cases, Visakhapatnam, C.N. Murthy, on Tuesday convicted former Regional Manager (Branch Transport and Shipping) of the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), Visakhapatnam, Ragam Kishore, and sentenced him to three years of simple imprisonment and a fine of ₹1 lakh.
According to officials, between January 1, 1988 and April 19, 2,000, Kishore, while serving as a public servant in various capacities in SAIL, was found to have accumulated movable and immovable assets in his name and in the names of his family members that were disproportionate to his known sources of income. The disproportionate assets were calculated at ₹60,25,825.65, for which he could not satisfactorily account.
After a full trial, the court found him guilty. Acting on an attachment petition filed by the CBI, the Principal Special Judge also directed the agency to initiate proceedings to confiscate properties equivalent in value to the disproportionate assets, amounting to ₹43,56,300.
