A 50-year-old head constable attached to the Channapatna traffic station was found dead in Shettihalli lake in Channapatna Rural police station limits on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Lakshman. He was on his way to work on his two wheeler when the incident occurred.
The police suspect that while driving next to the lake, Lakshman lost control and slipped into the lake and drowned. His family members tried to reach him when he did not return home, but his mobile phone was switched off.
According to the police, Lakshman left home around 7.30 p.m. and was heading to the Channapatna Rural traffic police station for his night shift. He reportedly lost control of his bike, hit the bridge railing, and fell into the lake.
On Tuesday morning, passers-by found the two-wheeler next to the lake.
The police recovered the body and shifted it to the hospital for post-mortem. A case of unnatural death has been registered and investigation is on.
