A remand prisoner, who was arrested on charges of murdering a woman school teacher, in Thanjavur district recently, allegedly attempted to end his life on Tuesday inside the Pudukottai district jail where he was lodged.
Police sources said the remand prisoner, K. Ajith Kumar of Melakalangudi village in Thanjavur district, took the extreme step of trying to end his life in the morning. Upon noticing his activities, prison warders rescued him and got him admitted to the Pudukottai Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Ajith Kumar had allegedly waylaid and hacked to death a temporary primary school teacher Kavya, 26, while she was riding a two-wheeler to the school on the morning of November 27. It is said that Ajith Kumar and the teacher were in love for over a decade. Kavya had informed Ajith Kumar about her engagement with her relative which enraged him. In a fit of anger he allegedly murder her.
