The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched a probe into Air India after the airline allegedly operated eight passenger flights with an Airbus A320neo whose airworthiness certification had lapsed.
Air India said it reported the incident to the DGCA as soon it came to light on November 26.
The airline has also launched an internal probe to identify gaps and implement corrective measures, and has suspended staff linked to the incident. A total of 8 flights were operated on November 24 and November 25 involving the specific aircraft.
The aircraft was among the 70 jets transferred from Vistara to Air India following the merger last November and was scheduled for its annual recertification.
According to a DGCA statement, while Air India had submitted an application for review, the aircraft had been grounded for an engine replacement and was later cleared for service, even though its certification had lapsed during that period.
