Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) State president C.P.A. Latheef has claimed that the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is an attempt by the Union government to deny citizenship and voting rights to the backward classes in the country.

He told the media here on Tuesday that the Election Commission of India was being used for the task. This was also against constitutional principles and was a denial of the people’s democratic rights, Mr. Latheef added.
