Members of the Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC) on Tuesday submitted a petition with the district administration demanding action against Sports Department Officers for not recognising the victory of actual differently abled sports player who won the competitions in the recently held CM trophy sports events.

The petition read that the visually challenged sports player, Pandiyarajan, who enrolled in the CM trophy for the 100m race in differently abled category, completed the race in the second position.

Though he received confirmation after competition of the race, the petition said: “The sports department authorities despite getting a signature from him following the race were denying to provide him with the certificate, trophy and cash prize.”

N. Mathibarathy, TARATDAC, district president, said, “As acknowledging him completing the race in the second position, Pandiyarajan signed a paper handed over to him. But, despite the confirmation, he has not received the certificate and prize amount, which is close to ₹2,000.”

He further added that they had not received any reply from the authorities about whether he was even qualified for the prize.

The petitioners doubted whether the prize was given to a different person.

cccThe Hindu independently attempted to verify the allegations, but the authorities could not be reached.
