CPI(M) State secretary P. Shanmugam on Tuesday said the Tamil Nadu government should ensure 5% reservation for people with disabilities in education and in employment across government and private sectors.
In his message issued in connection with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Mr. Shanmugam said the government should instruct officials to pay people with disabilities full remuneration for four hours of work under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
He said the services of people with disabilities who have completed two years in government employment should be made permanent, as per Government Order 151 issued in 2008, and that Government Order 24 should be withdrawn.
“Tamil Nadu government should take a cue from the Andhra Pradesh government and provide ₹6,000 per month to people with disabilities. It should also release assistance to all those who have applied for government relief,” he said.
