Ms. Banerjee also highlighted that she does not engage in communal politics. “Bengal does not discriminate. We treat all communities equally. This is not a government that divides people. This is a government that protects everyone,” Ms. Banerjee said. The Chief Minister said that she would “resist any attempt” to unsettle the social fabric.

Referring to the decision by Nitish Kumar’s government in Bihar allocating ₹10,000 to women in the State ahead of recently concluded Assembly polls, the Chief Minister said that her government’s Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme in West Bengal provides ₹1,000 per month and thus in one year the beneficiaries get ₹12,000. “We do not even have any conditions and it is a universal scheme,” she said.
It is being speculated in political circles that the Chief Minister may increase the entitlement under Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme which covers about 2.21 crore beneficiaries in the State.
Responding to the claims by the Chief Minister, State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said that people of the State have made their own report card and they want Mamata Banerjee out of power in 2026.
“We do not only have migrant workers from the State, but our students and industrialists are also migrants,” he said. Mr. Bhattacharya spoke about how the policies of Trinamool Congress government have induced flight of capital from the State.
