
Sudden rain lashes several parts of Puducherry on Wednesday.

Intermittent drizzle and cloudy weather on Wednesday affected normal life in Puducherry.
The Puducherry town received around 19 mm of rainfall till 8 a.m. on Wednesday while Thirukkanur received 6 mm, Pathukannu 8 mm and Bahour 87 mm. The government had declared holiday for all schools in Puducherry region on Wednesday.
According to an official in the irrigation wing of the Public Works Department, Puducherry town has received 801 mm rainfall during the northeast monsoon so far.
Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India has issued a statement requesting the government to provide financial assistance to rain-hit persons. Daily wage earners and farmers were the most affected due to frequent rain after the onset of monsoon in the Union Territory. The party has requested the government to provide financial assistance of ₹5,000 to daily wage earners and ₹25,000 per hectare for farmers to compensate their loss due to rain.
