In a swift action, the Varthur police on Wednesday rescued a 10-year-old boy within few hours after he was kidnapped allegedly by a migrant family for a ransom.

The victim, Tamim Molla, is the elder son of Shahin Bibi, a domestic help living with her two children at a labourer colony in Belagere.

Tamim, who was studying in local Madrasa, came back at around 11 p.m. and went out to play and was found missing since then.

The family started searching for him after he did not return when the accused called the grand father of Tamim, informing about the kidnap and demanded ₹50,000 for his safe release. The accused told him to transfer the money online and warned him not to inform the police.

According to police, the mother who got to know about the incident, alerted Kaleemullah R., a city-based social activist , who in turn called the police control room.

A team of police, led by sub-inspector Mounesh Doddamani, tracked down the accused based on the mobile calls and rescued the boy on the outskirts of Yelahanka.

The police have taken the accused into custody to ascertain the motive behind the kidnap and also verifying their criminal background.
