The Central University of Kerala (CUK) has launched ‘Earn while you learn’ scheme, offering students an opportunity to take up part-time work on campus without disrupting their studies. The initiative, aimed particularly at supporting economically disadvantaged students, was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Siddu P. Algur on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said the programme would not only provide financial support to students but also help them develop a sense of solidarity, responsibility, and leadership. He noted that involving students in administrative activities aligned with the idea of a developed and self-reliant India.
The scheme would function as a platform to utilise and nurture diverse student talents, university officials said. Dean of Students’ Welfare Rajendra Pilankatta and Library Committee chairman Dennis Thomas spoke.
Initially, 40 students have been selected. Tasks will be scheduled in such a way that academic activities remain unaffected. Students will be assigned work based on their skills and interests, providing them with exposure and practical experience.
The university plans to expand the scheme to more departments in the coming days, with the goal of including maximum number of students.
