The Congress has no obligation to protect Rahul Mamkootathil, asserted former Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala. .
While interacting with media persons in Thrissur on Wednesday, he said the party leadership would convene and decide the further course of action once the court delivers its verdict on Mr. Mamkootathilâs anticipatory bail plea
Mr. Chennithala said that the complaint of abuse received by the Congress was immediately forwarded to the DGP by the KPCC president and that the party has followed all due procedures in the case.
âIn the Rahul Mamkootathil matter, it is the Congress that has taken the strongest action seen in Keralaâs political sphere,â he told reporters. âMy stand on this issue has been clear from the beginning, and the people and the media of Kerala are well aware of it.â
He added that although the case concerns the personal conduct of Rahul Mamkootathil, it had implications for the party, prompting swift intervention. Mr. Chennithala criticised the CPI(M), alleging that the party promoted individuals accused in similar cases and handled such matters through an internal âparty courtâ rather than proper legal channels.
